Meaning: In difficulty, faced with a choice between two unsatisfactory options.
Example: I suddenly found myself caught between a rock and a hard place and didn't know what to do.
In Portuguese: estar entre a cruz e a espada.

Synonym: between the devil and the deep blue sea.
